What Is a Christian?

A Christian is a person who believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God...

that He died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins, He rose from the grave and now sits at the right hand of God. A Christian acknowledges that he is a sinner and has fallen short of God’s moral standards. He accepts the grace and forgiveness that comes from the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and he strives to follow God with his life.

A Christian believes…

  • There is one God
  • Jesus is who He said He was and what the Bible says about Him is true
  • Sin separates us from God, but Jesus restores that relationship with God if we acknowledge Him and believe in Him
  • God actually hears our prayers and He lives within us through His Holy Spirit
  • One day we will face God and will have to give an account for our lives
  • Jesus will one day return

5 Reasons People Don’t Become a Christian

  • They don’t believe there is a God
  • They don’t believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God
  • They don’t believe Jesus is who He said He was or they don’t know is His message
  • They have some belief, but have been “turned off” by some “Christians”
  • They believe, but have things in their life that keep them from following God
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and experienced God’s love and forgiveness, it is probably because of one of the reasons I’ve listed above. Watch the video above and I will help you try to work through your issues about Christianity. I promise to be non-judgmental and non-condemning. It’s your life and you have the power and right to make your own choices. I’ve been where you are and God has changed my heart and my life, so I would be selfish to not at least help you understand a little bit more about Christianity and the life of favor and blessings that God has in store for those who follow Him.

Here is what I cover in the video

  • If you don’t believe in God, how to get God to reveal Himself to you
  • How to handle your negative opinion of “Hypocrites”, “Christians” and “Religious People”
  • An overview of the Bible so you know what’s in there
  • How to overcome that thing in your life that keeps you from wanting to follow Jesus
  • Information about the 3 major God-based religions – Islam, Judaism, and Christianity
  • How to become a Christian
  • There real message of Jesus – A message of grace, love, forgiveness, and mercy.  (Not judgment, works, and religion)

  • “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”John 14:1-3

Salvation is a gift from God and not something to be earned

  • “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” Ephesians 2:8-9

How to be saved

  • “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9

God will lead you and help you improve through His Holy Spirit

  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6
  • “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” 2 Corinthians 3:18
  • “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you” John 16:13-15

After you accept Jesus, your heart should have some desire to change and follow Him

  • “Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them” Matthew 7:17-21

  • “but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” Matthew 24:13

If you don’t believe… Ask God to show himself and His love to you

  • “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” 2 Peter 3:9
  • “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” Matthew 11:27
  • “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” Matthew 7:7-8
If God is really God and He is a good God, then ask Him to reveal himself to you. If God is not big enough or good enough to show you himself and His love, then I don’t blame you for not believing in Him or following Him. It is my experience that God is more than willing to show himself to you. His power in this world is unmistakable if we choose to look. Many times we choose to not see Him or listen to Him because we are afraid He might actually be there and that would change everything! Remember, you don’t have to be perfect to hear from God and receive His love and forgiveness.

What is your next step as a new Christian?

There are a few things you can do to help you grow as a Christian, to help you grow closer to God, and to help you reach your potential and fulfill your purpose.
1. Spend time often praying/talking to God If you don’t know how to pray, just be honest. A good starting prayer might be, “Thank you God for coming into my life, but I don’t really know how to talk to you. Please help me and please speak to me.” Your prayers don’t need to be long. They are actually best when they are honest and to the point. God longs to hear from you and the more you take moments to pray to Him and strive to listen to Him, the closer God will be in your life.
2. Spend time often reading the Bible If you don’t know what to read, start with the New Testament. I think the book of Matthew is a good starting point. The Bible will help you to understand God, to understand His teachings and principles, and it will help you become all that God wants you to become. The Bible is the greatest way to get to know God. He uses His Word to speak to us and draw us closer to Himself. He has a great plan and purpose for your life and He will use the Bible to help you become the person that He desires you to become. 3. Find other Christians to spend time with Jesus built His church so that Christians would come together to encourage one another, love one another, and show the world the love of Christ through their actions. We need each other to help us to become better people and we need each other to be the light to the world that Jesus called us to be. You may be able to keep a relationship with God without going to church or spending time with other Christians, but you will never reach your full potential or find your God-given purpose to serve the world without joining together with other parts of the Body of Christ/The Church. The Body of Christ is the largest and greatest force in the world for good and we each have a role to play in becoming all that we can be. Don’t try to do it alone. We are better together. 4. Find your purpose and continue to grow and improve yourself God didn’t save you just for yourself, but He saved you because He wants your life to be a testimony for Him and to bring Him glory in the world. You are uniquely gifted and there is nobody in the world just like you. There is a purpose in this world that only you can fulfill. You only get one shot at this life; you might as well give it your best. I wrote Epic Christianity as tool to help you find your purpose and build a life that makes a difference. I encourage you to read it and get a vision for “the best you” that you can become. You can also connect with me on social media, read my blog, or watch my other videos as they may all be an encouragement to you.
5. Tell somebody that you accepted Jesus as your Savior Jesus said if you acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge you before my father in heaven. To really make your commitment to Jesus real, you should tell someone. Be careful who you tell too early, because there are people who might not believe what you believe and they may be a discouragement to you. So it is best to find another Christian to tell of your decision.I would love to hear from you and know if you have accepted Jesus! Join my email list and respond to the email that I will send you. I would be extremely happy to hear from you and I would love to help you grow and become the best you that you can be!

If you have further questions, I will be glad to help you the best that I can.

I will also try to regularly create videos answering frequently asked questions about Christianity.

Your life and your future are too important for you to not at least try to answer the questions you may have. You are the only person that can decide what you believe. You are the only person that can put effort into seeking out God. And you are the only person that is responsible for your life, your soul, and your future.
I hope that you choose to put the effort into seeing if Jesus really is who He said He was, and that you will ask God to show himself to you. You have greatness within you and with God, you can live a life that brings good into the world and leaves a legacy.
